The script was designed in 1686 by Zanabazar, the first spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism in Mongolia, who also designed the Horizontal square script. [2] The Soyombo script was created as the fourth Mongolian script, only 38 years after the invention of the Clear script. The name of the script alludes to this story.
Isaac Jacob Schmidt (Russian: Яков Иванович (Исаак Якоб) Шмидт; 25 October [O.S. 14 October] 1779 — 20 September [O.S. 8 September] 1847 [1]) was an Orientalist specialising in Mongolian and Tibetan. In 1995, the Mongolia Ulaanbaatar Mission was established with Richard Cook as the first mission president. The Ulaanbaatar Mongolia West Stake with six congregations was formed in 2009 growing to nine congregations by May 2016.
