The Cabinet counties are ten counties in the southern part of the U.S. state of Michigan named after President Andrew Jackson and people who served in his Cabinet. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The Michigan Territorial legislature created twelve counties on October 29, 1829, [ 3 ] naming eight of them after members of the recently elected Jackson's cabinet.
