Zappos provides outstanding service, and there's no question that their 365-day return policy is an invitation to people (of a certain sort) to take advantage. But I'm intrigued: it's *also* possible that, because they are so lenient in this way, they may be extra-tough in the "wear" department.

As others have said, just use Zappos or Endless.com and order a few different sizes and widths and then return them. I've returned plenty of shoes to Endless and have never had a problem with them promptly refunding my credit card. As you've experienced with your wingtips your AE size is likely a full size smaller than your Nike size.

If you are able to return them, do so. But not exchange. Refund, save for a while and get better shoes. That is what bad leather is going to look like. When you do get better shoes, also get shoe trees to slip inside them when you take them off.
If you're in the European Union and bought it from their online webshop, they can't deny a return because it was on sale. A lot of web shops claim this, but it's in violation of the EU's right to withdraw. Edit: I just checked Rubato's return policy. It states: If the item is bought online, this clause is sheer nonsense and can be ignored.

If you wish to return your purchase, you may do so with 14 days of receiving it. Returned items can be exchanged for other merchandise or a store credit against future purchases.
