The St. Thomas City Council is the governing body of the city of St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada. It is made up of a mayor and seven aldermen who are elected on an "at-large" basis. Elections for the city council are held every four years.
Joseph Preston (born June 14, 1955) is a Canadian politician who currently serves as the mayor of St. Thomas. He was previously a member of Parliament, representing Elgin—Middlesex—London riding from 2004 to 2015 as a member of a Conservative Party of Canada. As per the Ontario Municipal Elections Act, 1996, nomination papers for candidates for municipal and school board elections could be filed from May 1, 2018, at which time the campaign period began. [3] Nominations closed on July 27, 2018, at 2 PM local time. Certification of nomination papers was completed by 4 PM on July 30, 2018. [2]
