In West Chester, PA 3 follows Market Street eastbound and Gay Street westbound. The main north–south road in West Chester is High Street. To the north of town, the road is known as Pottstown Pike, which connects to PA 100 near Exton (PA 100 formerly ran through town). To the south of town, the road is known as Wilmington-West Chester Pike.

Miner Street in West Chester, which comprises part of PA 842, was laid out in 1831 as part of an expansion of West Chester built by William Everhart. The street was named for Charles Miner, a West Chester resident. [5] When Pennsylvania first legislated routes in 1911, what would become PA 842 was not legislated as part of a route. [6]
Hannum renamed Turk's Head West Chester and began selling lots along Gay Street. By 1795 he had mapped out the original streets – Church, High, Gay, Market, Chestnut, and Walnut. On March 28, 1799, West Chester was incorporated as a borough from Goshen Township land by an act of state legislature.
Everhart Park has an area of 10.2 acres (4.1 ha) and is located on the western side of West Chester, bordering East Bradford Township. [1] It is bounded by Brandywine Street to the east, Union Street to the south, Bradford Avenue to the west, and Miner Street to the north.
