Diagram showing the development of different blood cells from hematopoietic stem cells to mature cells.. A blood cell (also called a hematopoietic cell, hemocyte, or hematocyte) is a cell produced through hematopoiesis and found mainly in the blood.
Hemocytes are phagocytes of invertebrates. Hemocytes in Drosophila melanogaster can be divided into two categories: embryonic and larval. Embryonic hemocytes are derived from head mesoderm and enter the hemolymph as circulating cells. Larval hemocytes, on the other hand, are responsible for tissue remodeling during development.
It is composed of a fluid plasma in which hemolymph cells called hemocytes are suspended. In addition to hemocytes, the plasma also contains many chemicals. It is the major tissue type of the open circulatory system characteristic of arthropods (for example, arachnids, crustaceans and insects).
[64] [65] Hemolymph is composed of plasma in which hemocytes are suspended. Nutrients, hormones, wastes, and other substances are transported throughout the insect body in the hemolymph. Hemocytes include many types of cells that are important for immune responses, wound healing, and other functions.
Cellular parts of insect innate immunity are hemocytes, which can eliminate pathogens by nodulation, encapsulation or phagocytosis. [8] The innate response during immune priming differs based on the experimental setup, but generally it involves enhancement of humoral innate immune mechanisms and increased levels of hemocytes.
The granular hemocytes are activated by bacterial endotoxins lipopolysaccharides (LPS) that are found on the surface of Gram-negative bacteria. LPS comprises approximately 70% of the outer membranes of gram-negative bacteria.” [ 10 ] They are also activated by beta-1,3-glucans that are found on the cell walls of yeast and some fungi.
Physicians specialized in hematology are known as hematologists or haematologists. [2] Their routine work mainly includes the care and treatment of patients with hematological diseases, although some may also work at the hematology laboratory viewing blood films and bone marrow slides under the microscope, interpreting various hematological test results and blood clotting test results.
Micrograph showing hemophagocytosis in the spleen. H&E stain.. Hemophagocytosis is a dangerous form of phagocytosis in which histiocytes engulf red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and their precursors [1] in bone marrow and other tissues.
