Twinkl offers an ecosystem of resources, tools and solutions to teachers, education leaders, schools and multi-academy trusts to help solve challenges across resource, assessment, professional development, staffing and compliance - as well as giving parents and home educators ways to build skills outside of the classroom.
Previously, Twinkle used to download the same editing form as is used by human editors, fill it out behind-the-scenes, and send the request back as if the "Save page" button had been clicked. This was unreliable – if the format of the edit form was modified, or if malformed editnotices were present, Twinkle failed.
Twinkle is made up of many "modules", each providing a quicker way of carrying out a certain maintenance task. Most modules can be accessed through the tabs along the top of each page (in the Monobook skin), or under the "TW" drop-down menu next to the search box (in the Vector skin).

Historically, Twinkle used to be localised by copying the enwiki gadget files and modifying them. This method is now discouraged as it results in twinkle becoming outdated with no easy way of getting it up-to-date – eventually resulting in broken installations on many wikis. Syncing the updates from enwiki is usually non-trivial.
