GSG 9 der Bundespolizei, formerly Grenzschutzgruppe 9 (German for 'Border Protection Group 9'), is the police tactical unit of the German Federal Police (Bundespolizei). The unit is responsible for combatting terrorism and violent crime, including organized crime. [1]
The CTC was initiated in 1983 by the former GSG 9 commanders Ulrich Wegener and Uwe Dee in order to improve cooperation among the different units and to encourage the exchange of ideas and experience.

BFE+ units are decentralized and work as a first response force until the more specialized and centralized GSG9 arrive at the scene, and are equipped similarly to SEK units. The GSG 9 counter-terrorism group is directly subordinate to the BPOL HQ. The BPOL Information and Communications Center is now a department of the BPOL HQ in Potsdam.
In March 2006, in the same competition, GSG 9 defended its championship. "Team GSG-9, the Federal Border Police of Germany, swept the competition and won all seven events."
