University Golf Club was designed by A.V. Macan, [3] and was opened as a public course in 1929 by John Boyd. It was originally named Westward Ho!, but became known to the public by its current name in 1985. The project was originally estimated to have cost little more than $70,000 to $80,000 to complete.

Northam (/ ˈ n ɔː r ð əm / NOR-dhəm) is a market town, civil parish and electoral ward in Devon, England, lying north of Bideford.The civil parish also includes the villages of Westward Ho!, Appledore, West Appledore, Diddywell, Buckleigh and Silford, and the residential areas of Orchard Hill and Raleigh Estate.
One of them, J.H. Taylor, learned his golf at RND [6] and was invested Honorary President of the Club in 1957. [7] RND was also the home course for the noted amateur golfer Horace Hutchinson, [8] who won the British Amateur in 1886 and 1887. The course has hosted The Amateur Championship on three occasions, in 1912, 1925, and 1931. [9]
