Its administrator was an Atlanta physician named Olin Weaver. In 1915, the city of Macon assumed ownership of the hospital. In 1960, the hospital became a member of the American Hospital Association, though it wasn't until 11 years later, in 1971, that the name was changed to The Medical Center of Central Georgia.
In the 95th Congress, the Senate passed S. Res. 4, which renamed the committee to be the Committee on Human Resources. However, the name was again changed in the 96th Congress by S. Res. 30 to the Committee on Labor and Human Resources. On March 18, 1992, the committee’s jurisdiction was updated to include all of the areas listed below.

Effective March 31, 2016, the hospital was sold to Wellstar Health System along with four other Atlanta-area hospitals. [10] On August 31, 2022, Wellstar Health System announced that Atlanta Medical Center was expected to end operations on November 1, 2022. Grady Memorial Hospital was founded in 1890 and opened in 1892, as an outgrowth of the Atlanta Benevolent Home. It is named for Henry W. Grady, an Atlanta Constitution journalist and later owner who became a major force in Georgia politics and advocated for a public city hospital. At the time of opening, the hospital officially had 14 rooms.
