Whitaker was born and raised in Letcher County, Kentucky. When he was 17 his parents were involved in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. His father suffered minor injuries, but his mother died from her injuries the next day. [2] In 2011, he graduated from Letcher County High School and continued his education at the University of Kentucky.
