The first corn exchange in Cambridge was built on St Andrew's Hill in 1842. By the late 1860s, it was considered too small, and civic officials decided to commission a larger building on a site once occupied by the Black Bear Inn. [2] The foundation stone for the new building was laid by the mayor, John Death, on 26 May 1874. [3]

Corn Exchange Street is a street in central Cambridge, England. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It runs between Wheeler Street to the northwest and Downing Street to the southeast. To the northeast, Guildhall Place, a cul-de-sac , runs parallel with Corn Exchange Street at the northern end, an extension of Guildhall Street .
To the east, Guildhall Place, a cul-de-sac, runs southeast from the junction with Guildhall Street, parallel with Corn Exchange Street at its northwestern end, as an extension of Guildhall Street. On the northeast end of Wheeler Street, on the corner with Corn Exchange Street is the Cambridge Corn Exchange, a music and theatrical venue. [3]

After skipping a year in 1983, it moved between the Guildhall and Midsummer Common before returning to the Corn Exchange in 1988 (the 14th festival).
