The University of Panama (Spanish: Universidad de Panamá) is a public university in Panama City, Panama. It was founded on October 7, 1935. Initially, it had 175 students learning education, commerce, natural sciences, pharmacy, pre-engineering or law. As of 2008, it had 74,059 students distributed in 228 buildings across the country.

The Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá (UTP) is the highest hierarchy public institution, regarding higher education in Panama. It was formerly the Engineering School of the University of Panama, which in 1975 became the Polytechnic Institute and, due to the need of a new model of university, became the Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá, by means of Law 18 of August 13, 1981.
The university has its roots in the Latina University of Costa Rica, established in Paso Canoas, Province of Puntarenas in 1989. In Panama it was inaugurated on September 4, 1991, with facilities in Panama City and David, Chiriquí. Two other facilities were later opened in Veraguas and Herrera.
