The Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS; Irish: Státseirbhís Thuaisceart Éireann; [1] Ulster-Scots: Norlin Airlann Cïvil Sarvice) [2] is the permanent bureaucracy of employees that supports the Northern Ireland Executive, the devolved government of Northern Ireland.
Civil Service Commissioners for Northern Ireland, first established in 1999 to uphold the Merit Principle in selection for appointment to the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS). Their aim is to ensure that this should be on merit, on the basis of fair and open competition. [1] [2]
The commission issues codes of practice concerning recruitment and selection.
