The Wish-Bone logo. Wish-Bone is an American brand of salad dressing, marinades, dips and pasta salad. [1] The original salad dressing was based on a recipe served at the Wishbone restaurant in Kansas City, Missouri, founded by ex-soldier Phillip Sollomi in 1945 along with Lena Sollomi, Phillip's mother. [2]
The five ownership groups own and operate 55 stores across Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa. Slogans for the chain include "Just Right" and "Fresher Ways to Save". In 2015 it was the largest grocery store chain in the Kansas City metropolitan area in terms of both sales and number of stores.
The store was started by Kersey Coates and William Gillis in the 1860s in the then Town of Kansas at the corner of Missouri Avenue and Main Street. Although initially outfitting travelers on the Oregon Trail and Santa Fe Trail, it soon became more upscale. It moved to a new three-story building at Seventh and Main.
