The Barnegat Peninsula, also known as the Island Beach Peninsula or Barnegat Bay Island and colloquially as "the barrier island", is a 20-mile (32 km) long, narrow barrier peninsula located on the Jersey Shore in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States, that divides the Barnegat Bay from the Atlantic Ocean.
Middle Sedge Island in Barnegat Bay is a 25-acre (0.10 km 2) island, 14 acres (0.057 km 2) of which are developed with a single house. [13] Other islands include: Little Sedge Island, Northwest Point Island and Marsh Elder Island. Some are privately owned and some are owned by the state of New Jersey. [14]
Cape May consists of a peninsula and barrier island system in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is roughly coterminous with Cape May County and runs southwards from the New Jersey mainland, separating Delaware Bay from the Atlantic Ocean. The southernmost point in both New Jersey and the northeastern United States lies on the cape.
Squan Beach is a barrier peninsula that separates the Atlantic Ocean from Barnegat Bay.It abuts the mainland at the north end, and joins Island Beach to the south. Due to the former shifting of the Manasquan Inlet, which at times had been as far north as Stockton Lake, the portion of Manasquan in Monmouth County lying east of Watson's Creek may be considered a truncated portion of Squan Beach.
The area is managed by the New Jersey Tidelands Resource Council [2] as it is part of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. There is a likelihood that Horseshoe Island will continue to expand and merge with a nearby barrier island called Little Beach, located to its west. [6]

Brigantine Island is a barrier island along the Atlantic Ocean between Brigantine Inlet on the northeast, and Absecon Inlet on the southwest. The former Quarters Inlet originally separated Brigantine Island from Peters Beach on the southwest, but through sand deposition Brigantine Island has extended its length and enclosed Peters Beach; Quarters Inlet is now closed.
