I loved the story of 1959's Ben Hur. Director William Wyler told Stephen Boyd to play his part as if he and Charlton Heston had once been lovers, but not to tell Heston, because Heston would have had a fit. When you watch the movie, you see how Boyd looks into Heston's eyes like he wants to make out with him in almost every scene.
