The first Victorian general Act dealing with local government was the Local Government Act of 1874. The act empowered shires to be established in territories that could financially support them, and boroughs to be established in areas not exceeding 9 square miles (23 km 2) with a population of at least 300.

The Shire of Baw Baw (/ ˈ b ɔː ˈ b ɔː /) is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, in the eastern part of the state. It covers an area of 4,028 square kilometres (1,555 sq mi) and in 2021 had a population of 57,626. [1] It includes the towns of Drouin, Longwarry, Neerim South, Trafalgar, Warragul and Yarragon.
