The Chevrolet S-10 is a compact pickup truck produced by Chevrolet.It was the first domestically-built compact pickup of the big three American automakers. When it was first introduced as a "quarter-ton pickup" in 1981 for the 1982 model year, the GMC version was known as the S-15 and later renamed the GMC Sonoma.

For 1983, the front fascia underwent a minor revision. Along with dropping the two-headlight configuration, Chevrolet and GMC received revised grilles (including the turn signals behind them [2]). For 1984, the two-headlamp configuration returned for base-trim vehicles (relocating the turn signals from the grille to the headlamp surround [28]).
This engine was used in the Chevrolet S-10 and GMC S-15 compact pickup trucks and their Blazer and Jimmy counterparts until 1985, when it was replaced by the 2.5-liter Tech IV engine.
