Mellow Yellow is the fourth album from Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan.It was released in the US in February 1967 (Epic Records LN 24239 (monaural) / BN 26239 (rechanneled stereo), [3] but not released in the UK because of a continuing contractual dispute that also prevented Sunshine Superman from a UK release.
Just a few months earlier, Donovan's hit single "Mellow Yellow" (1966) had been released, and in the popular culture of the era, the song was assumed to be about smoking banana peels. On August 6, 1967, shortly after the song's release, bananadine was featured in a New York Times Magazine article titled "Cool Talk About Hot Drugs". [2]
Donovan was born on 10 May 1946, in Maryhill, Glasgow [4] [5] to Donald and Winifred (née Phillips) Leitch. His grandmothers were Irish. [6] [7] He contracted polio as a child.. The disease and treatment left him with a limp.
