Penn State–Lehigh Valley teams participate in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). The Nittany Lions are a member of the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC). Men's sports include basketball, cross country, golf, and soccer. Women's sports include basketball, cross country, soccer, and volleyball. [2]
The Penn State Nittany Lions women's volleyball program has had a long tradition, founded in 1976 by Tom Tait, long-time coach of the Penn State men's team, who coached the women's team from 1976 to 1979 and was named a USA Volleyball All-Time great coach in 2007. [3] Russ Rose was the head coach from 1979 to 2021. [4]
The school holds the record for the most Lehigh Valley Conference championships in boys volleyball. [2] In boys athletics, Freedom participates in football, basketball, golf, ice hockey, soccer, baseball, tennis, volleyball, lacrosse, swimming, wrestling, diving, rifle, track and field and cross country.
In 2012 the LVAIC partnered with Lehigh university with a $275,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce to support entrepreneurship in the Lehigh Valley. [6] In 2016 the LVAIC website would be totally redesigned by the Allentown based KDG group to better represent the LVAIC online, and make the website easier to use for students. [7]
The school is managed by the Diocese of Allentown, and predominantly serves students from the Lehigh Valley region of eastern Pennsylvania.
