Caldicot (Welsh: Cil-y-coed) is a market town and community in Monmouthshire, Wales. The town is located between Chepstow and the city of Newport . The site adjoins the Caldicot Levels , on the north side of the Severn Estuary .
Caldicot Castle (Welsh: Castell Cil-y-coed) is an extensive stone medieval castle in the town of Caldicot, Monmouthshire, in southeast Wales, built near the site of Harold Godwinson's former Saxon castle by the Norman earls of Hereford from about 1100. [1]
The Caldicot Castle ward covers the northern corner of the Caldicot community bordered to the north by the A48 road (and Caerwent) and to the east by the community/ward of Portskewett. [1] The eponymous medieval Caldicot Castle and museum is located in the parkland to the southeast of the ward.
The West End ward covers the western corner of the Caldicot community, bordered more-or-less by the B4245 Newport Road and Caldicot by-pass. The ward stretches south to the River Severn. To the west is the community/ward of Rogiet. [1] The West End ward includes Caldicot railway station.
