DeKalb Township is one of nineteen townships in DeKalb County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2020 census, its population was 42,667 and it contained 18,004 housing units. [ 2 ] DeKalb Township was originally named Orange Township, but was renamed on November 20, 1850.
Each county has the option to adopt or discontinue the township form of government. [ 7 ] Each township name is chosen by "in accordance with the express wish of the inhabitants"; but if "there is not a degree of unanimity as to the name", then the name may be chosen by the commissioners that are dividing the county into townships.
