Palmistry is the pseudoscientific practice of fortune-telling through the study of the palm. [1] Also known as palm reading, chiromancy, chirology or cheirology, the practice is found all over the world, with numerous cultural variations. Those who practice palmistry are generally called palmists, hand readers, hand analysts, or chirologists.
The arch passes across the palm in a curve (Boeckel's line) with its convexity downward, With the thumb fully extended, the superficial palmar arch would lie approximately 1 cm from a line drawn between the first web space to the hook of hamate (Kaplan's cardinal line). The superficial palmar arch extends more distally than the deep palmar arch.
If one were to fully extend the thumb and draw a line from the distal border of the thumb across the palm, this would be the level of the superficial palmar arch (Boeckel's line). The deep palmar arch is about a finger width proximal to this. The connection between the deep and superficial palmar arterial arches is an example of anastomosis. [1]
