Aklan, officially the Province of Aklan, [a] is a province in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines. Its capital and largest town is Kalibo. The province is situated in the northwest portion of Panay Island, bordering Antique to the southwest, and Capiz to the southeast. Aklan faces the Sibuyan Sea and Romblon province to the north.
Senator Jose M. Hontiveros was never mentioned among the Prominent Aklanons who has been active in politics because during his time as Senator Aklan was just the 3rd Congressional District of Capiz and so he was known to be a Capiznon. But his Birthplace is Tangalan, Aklan (CApiz) to Leon Hontiveros and Genoviva Miraflores on March 19, 1899.
Del Castillo died in a fight on March 17, 1897 which led to the increase of pro-revolution sentiment in Capiz (in an area which now forms part of modern-day Aklan). The remaining revolutionaries were promised of amnesty by the Spanish colonial government but were imprisoned and tortured instead. They were executed on March 23, 1897. [2]

When the Americans came, they annexed financially-struggling towns with bigger towns in the whole country, reducing the number of municipalities in Capiz from 34 to 24. In 1903, today's towns of Lezo, Numancia, and Banga were annexed to Kalibo.
