According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 30.9 square miles (80 km 2), of which 20.1 square miles (52 km 2) is land and 10.8 square miles (28 km 2) (35.08%) is water. Elmwood Township lies upon the West Arm of Grand Traverse Bay. Part of Lake Leelanau is located within the far northwest of Elmwood Township.

Leelanau County (/ ˈ l iː l ə n ɔː / LEE-lə-naw) is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census , the population was 22,301. [ 2 ] Since 2008, the county seat has been located within Suttons Bay Township , one mile east of the unincorporated village of Lake Leelanau . [ 3 ]
As one of the Cabinet counties, Berrien County was named for John M. Berrien of Georgia, US Attorney General (1829–1831) under US President Andrew Jackson. [1] The county was founded in 1829, and was organized in 1831, before Michigan was accepted into the Union as a state.
Elmwood Township is a civil township of Tuscola County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,060 at the 2020 census. [3] Elijah White was the first permanent white settler in the township in 1855. The township was organized with the name Waterloo in 1860 and renamed Elmwood by the state legislature in 1863. [4]
