The Waiatoto River is a river of the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. Formed from several small rivers which are fed by glaciers surrounding Mount Aspiring / Tititea , it flows north along a valley flanked in the west by the Haast Range before turning northwest to reach the Tasman Sea 20 kilometres (12 mi) southwest of Haast .
The power house is in a cavern, while two tailrace tunnels take the water from the power house 10 km (6 mi) to Deep Cove and the sea. The Manapouri Control Structure (Mararoa dam) downstream from the original outlet of Lake Manapouri controls the lake level, and feeds water from the Mararoa river back up the river into the Lake.
A jetboat is a boat propelled by a jet of water ejected from the back of the craft. The Aratiatia Rapids are an area of New Zealand river rapids downstream from the dam for the Aratiatia Power Station on the Waikato River. The rapids are extremely dangerous. Before construction of the dam and hydro station, the Aratiatia Rapids were a prominent feature on the Waikato River, and became a scenic reserve in 1906. [1]
The Rangiriri was a 19th-century paddle-steamer gunboat used on the Waikato River in New Zealand. It brought the first Pākehā settlers to Hamilton in 1864 and served as a riverboat until it was wrecked in 1889. It is now located on the shore in Memorial Park, Hamilton East. It is the oldest surviving iron-hulled boat in new Zealand. [1]

Sir Charles William Feilden Hamilton OBE (26 July 1899 – 30 March 1978) was a New Zealand engineer who developed the modern jetboat, and founded the water jet manufacturing company, CWF Hamilton Ltd. Hamilton never claimed to have invented the jet boat. He once said "I do not claim to have invented marine jet propulsion.
