Tippecanoe County (/ ˌ t ɪ p ə k ə ˈ n uː / TIP-ə-kə-NOO) is a county located in the west-central portion of the U.S. state of Indiana about 22 miles (35 km) east of the Illinois state line, less than 50 miles (80 km) from the Indianapolis metro area, and 130 miles (210 km) from Chicago.
Alting was President of the Lafayette, Indiana City Council from 1995 to 1998. [2] He was first elected to the Indiana State Senate in 1998. [3] [4] He defeated Democratic nominee Michael Oxenrider in 2010, [5] was unopposed for reelection in 2014, [6] and was re-elected in 2018 against his Democratic opponent Sherry Shipley, a dean at Ivy Tech Community College.
