Tioga County / t aɪ ˈ oʊ ɡ ə / is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 48,455. [2] Its county seat is Owego. [3] Tioga County is part of the Binghamton metropolitan area. The county is part of the Southern Tier region of the state.
The MSA encompasses Broome and Tioga counties, [2] which together had a population of 247,138 as of the 2020 census. [1] From 1963 to 1983, the MSA also included neighboring Susquehanna County in Pennsylvania , [ 3 ] part of which still falls in the Binghamton, NY–PA Urban Area. [ 4 ]

The village of Owego was established in 1787. When the "Town of Tioga" was created from the Town of Union, Owego village was in Tioga. In 1813, Tioga and Owego switched names, putting the village in the same-named town. The current Town of Tioga is now just west of the village. The village is in the Owego-Apalachin Central School District.
