The school was founded in 1938 by Raoul Dandurand and other wealthy French Canadians as a Roman Catholic subsidiary of the renowned Collège Stanislas de Paris in Paris, France. Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf (French: [kɔlɛʒ ʒɑ̃ də bʁebœf]) is a subsidized private, previously Jesuit French-language educational institution offering secondary school and college-level instruction in Quebec. It was originally a boys' school, though since 2014 it now admits girls too.
Its main predecessor is the Montreal Catholic School Commission (Commission des écoles catholiques de Montréal or CÉCM) which was composed of both French and English Roman Catholic schools and had been in operation for over 150 years.
