Pleasant Hill is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States, in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area.The population was 34,613 at the 2020 census.It was incorporated in 1961.

In 1942, the ranch was sold to Kaho Daily, who maintained it as a working ranch until 1978. A development for single family homes was approved in 1987. The Pleasant Hill Historical Society stepped in to save what remained of the ranch and the property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
The major central county cities along Interstate 680 are Martinez, Concord, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Danville, San Ramon, and unincorporated Alamo. Owing to the high quality of its public schools (due largely to both demographics and added support from prosperous parents), this area has become a magnet for well–off families with children.
