U.S. Route 281 (US 281) is a north–south United States Numbered Highway. At 1,875 miles (3,018 km) [ 3 ] it is the longest continuous three-digit U.S. Route. The highway's northern terminus is at the International Peace Garden , north of Dunseith, North Dakota , at the Canadian border , where it continues as Highway 10 .
The route was extended to Jacksboro on November 18, 1938. [3] On August 1, 1941, the section of SH 148 north of Charlie was cancelled and obliterated, as the bridge was destroyed due to flooding. The section north of Petrolia was transferred to FM 810 on August 24, 1948.
SH 199 begins at an intersection with U.S. Route 380/State Highway 59 in Jacksboro near the Jack County courthouse, with the road continuing north as U.S. Route 281/State Highway 114. The highway begins with a concurrency with US 281/US 380/SH 114, with US 380/SH 114 leaving just south of the Jacksboro city limits.
