Beauport was built starting in 1908 as the summer home of interior decorator and antique collector Henry Davis Sleeper.Situated on the rocks overlooking Gloucester Harbor, Sleeper repeatedly enlarged and modified the structure, and filled it with a large collection of fine art, folk art, architectural artifacts, and other collectible materials.

The Central Gloucester Historic District encompasses the historic commercial, civic, and residential core of the fishing community of Gloucester, Massachusetts.Now largely defined by 19th century architectural trends, it includes the city's commercial downtown (Main Street), its civic heart on Dale and Prospect Streets, and some adjacent residential areas.
Ernestina is the oldest surviving Grand Banks fishing schooner, and the only surviving 19th century fishing schooner built in Gloucester. Owned by the state and under the overall aegis of the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park , she is in 2012 sidelined from her intended educational purpose by budget constraints and the need for repairs.
