Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) is a public school district that covers Seminole County, Florida. As of September 2006 [update] , the total district wide enrollment was 66,351 students. [ 3 ]

The team won eighty-four consecutive dual meet events from 2004 to 2008. [citation needed] The Oviedo Lions have an in-town rivalry with Hagerty High School. The Lions also have a rivalry with Lake Howell High School since the latter was founded in 1975, as well as with Winter Springs and Lake Brantley high schools.

Although, the school first opened in 1997 as Winter Springs High School, the school had first opened its doors as a temporary home to the student body, faculty and staff of nearby Lake Howell High School the previous year while the Lake Howell campus underwent major renovations. A.W. Epps was the school's first principal.
