The Glenmere mansion is a luxury hotel and spa overlooking Glenmere Lake, approximately 50 miles northwest of New York City in Orange County, New York.It was built in 1911 as the residence of real estate developer Robert Wilson Goelet (not to be confused with his first cousin, Robert Walton Goelet) on the grounds of his sprawling estate in Sugar Loaf, a hamlet of the town of Chester.
The Lynn teams hosted home minor league home games at the West Lynn Grounds (1877–1878), Glenmere Park (1886–1888, 1891, 1901) and Ocean Park (1905–1916). In 1906, Thomas F. Burke, of the Lynn Shoemakers died after being hit in the temple by a pitch during a home game in Lynn. Four Baseball Hall of Fame members played for Lynn teams.
Goelet built his estate, Glenmere Mansion, in the town of Chester, New York, in 1911. In 1932, he decided to create a radio station that would broadcast from his estate's grounds. (Goelet wanted the call letters WCNY, for "Chester, New York", but as they were already taken, he settled for WGNY to stand for Goelet and Glenmere.)
