The current hospital opened December 7, 2013, less than 1,300 feet (400 m) to the west of the original campus, replacing Wishard Memorial Hospital. [ 1 ] Many of Eskenazi Hospital's 4,620 medical staff [ 2 ] are provided by a mix of faculty, residents, and students of the adjacent Indiana University School of Medicine .
The new hospital was designed by Robert P. Daggett using other hospitals as inspiration for more modern facilities. The trustees purchased the site and ground was broken for the new hospital on November 1, 1912. [2] Long Hospital officially opened on June 15, 1914, and was supervised by the Indiana University School of Medicine. [3]
Later that year, St. Joseph's Hospital in Bloomington, Illinois, was established, moving in 1968 to its present site today as OSF St. Joseph Medical Center.
