The First National Bank Tower is an office skyscraper in downtown Omaha, Nebraska, and the official headquarters of First National Bank of Omaha.Rising to 634 feet (193 m) and 45 stories, it is the tallest building in Omaha and the state; and has been since its completion, overtaking the 30-story WoodmenLife Tower located nearby.
In 1968, the bank was reorganized under the bank holding company, First National of Nebraska, Inc. In 1971, employees started moving into the 22-story First National Center . Attached to a 420-room hotel and a 550-stall parking garage, it became one of the most modern buildings in the region, providing economic development in downtown Omaha.
Hooper is noted for a 24-foot (7.3 m) obelisk, with the town's name in 18-inch (46 cm) letters, completed in 2010 as a road sign for the town. The tower was constructed alongside a new bypass on U.S. Route 275 that diverted the highway south of the town and raised concerns that the town would be unnoticed by passing traffic.
Hooper Township is one of fourteen townships in Dodge County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,160 at the 2020 census. A 2021 estimate placed the township's population at 1,131. [1] Most of the Village of Hooper as well as the entire Village of Winslow lies within the Township.
The plot of land the WoodmenLife Tower occupies was previously taken up by several other buildings in Omaha's downtown, including the Old City Hall building. [2] [12] Following the land acquisition, Omaha National Bank (now a branch of U.S. Bank) signed as the first major tenant. [2] Construction on the Woodmen Tower began on May 23, 1966.
