Johnson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas.As of the 2020 census, its population was 179,927. [1] Its county seat is Cleburne. [2] Johnson County is named for Colonel Middleton Tate Johnson Sr., a Texas Ranger, politician and soldier in the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War (fighting for the Confederate States Army). Sand Flat is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, Texas, United States. [1] It is located along Farm to Market Road 4 (FM 4) in the southeastern part of the county, roughly midway between Cleburne and Grandview and just over one mile (1.6 km) north-northeast of the unincorporated community of Cuba. [2] [3]
In 1856, the county seat was moved to Buchanan and a new courthouse was built, which survived until at least the mid-1860s. A two-story framed courthouse was planned but never constructed. When part of Johnson County was consolidated into Hood County the county seat was moved again, to "Camp Henderson" which was renamed Cleburne.
Joshua Independent School District is a public school district based in Joshua, Texas, USA.. In addition to Joshua, the district covers a 76.68-square-mile (198.6 km 2) area [1] in north central Johnson County that includes portions of Cleburne, Burleson, Cross Timber, and Crowley.
