From its founding, the school was operated by the Sisters of Charity as a service to the members of the Parish of St. Barnabas. [6] [7] As of September 1, 2015, the school became independent of the parish. [8] [9] The school chapel was renovated sometime during the tenure of Timothy S. Collins as pastor, which lasted from 1986 to 1994. [10]

The school is one of the smallest in the Archdiocese of Louisville, with only around 300 students. In 2015, St. Barnabas and St. Plus X merged to become St. John Paul II Parish, while St. Bartholomew still exists as a separate parish.

In 2004, grades 7 and 8 were moved to the high school's East High Street campus, thus renamed Catholic Central Jr./Sr. High School, while the elementary school sites at St. Bernard Church and St. Teresa Church continued to remain open under the name Catholic Central Elementary School - Lagonda or Limestone campus, respectively.
