The British synthpop band Bronski Beat featured a mince pie-eating competition in Borstal with lead singer Jimmy Somerville winning the contest in the music video [13] of the cover song "It Ain't Necessarily So" from the album The Age of Consent. The Borstal is a punk rock band from Jakarta, Indonesia.
Beginning in 1982, [2] the festival took place on the campus of Mt. Hood Community College for many years, then moving to downtown Gresham for five years (2003 through 2007) before returning to the college. [1] Attendance dropped in the 2000s, from an earlier peak of around 10,000 per day to about 1,200 per day at the 2007 festival. [1]

The band started recording in 1981, releasing an album sponsored by the Cincinnati television station WKRC, then four for the Mopro label founded by Fred and Helen Morr in the 1980s. Sea Breeze reissued the Mopro albums in the 1990s. Among the group's more notable members were trumpeter Tim Hagans and bassist Lynn Seaton. [1]
