A 37° flare type end fitting for flexible hose The AN thread (also A-N ) is a particular type of fitting used to connect flexible hoses and rigid metal tubing that carry fluid. It is a US military-derived specification that dates back to World War II and stems from a joint standard agreed upon by the Army Air Corps and Navy, hence AN.
The copper crush washer in the gap between the fitting and body of the caliper completes the seal. Compared to pipe fittings that are themselves threaded, banjo fittings have the advantage that they do not have to be rotated relative to the host fitting. This avoids damage that can be caused by twisting the hose during installation.
For a taper thread, it is the diameter at the "gauge length" (plus/minus one thread pitch) from the small end of the thread. The taper is 1:16, meaning that for each 16 units of measurement increase in the distance from the end, the diameter increases by 1 unit of measurement.
In addition, 10 mm (0.393 in), and letter X (0.397 in) will work well, although major minus pitch by itself does not tell you this; but the 90% ± 2 pp guideline supports it. For both of these rules of thumb (85%/90% and major minus pitch), the tap drill size yielded is not necessarily the only possible one, but it is a good one for general use.
