On July 1, 2007 the Town of Chebeague Island became the newest town in Maine when it seceded from mainland Cumberland. Located in Casco Bay off Portland, the Town is comprised of seventeen islands and their adjacent waters.

At almost five miles long and 1½ miles wide, Chebeague Island is home to over 360 year-round people and more than 1,600 summer residents.
The Town of Chebeague Island includes seventeen islands and their adjacent waters. These include the islands of Bangs, Bates, Hope, Ministerial, Sand, Stave, Stockman, and the tiny Upper Green Islands.
