Oct 6, 2010. #21. Generally in medical school you don't learn from textbooks - you learn from the note-set the professors write. I don't think I opened a single textbook 1st year. This year the only textbook I've used so far is Robbins - but not everyone in my class uses it.

I decided to put together this list of textbooks because when I was starting out I was unsure which textbooks to buy and read loads of opinions which helped me determine which textbooks to buy. Apr 17, 2016. #4. You won't need to use a "textbook" per se, but you won't do well without "reading". Med schools rely heavily on syllabi, which frankly are home grown textbooks under a different name, and yes, you'll be expected to read and retread that.

I think textbooks in medical school are meant to supplement what is provided in the lecture notes provided by medical school faculty. So I don't think there's a lot of textbook reading. Could be wrong though. The on textbook I know you will read alot is First Aid for Step I. Feb 4, 2015. #3.

I think a histology book if your school requires/suggests it. The book by Ross. A book for neuroanatomy. You'll need something for biochem. What your school suggests or Lipponcott's. I find Bate's Guide to Physical Exam awesome, but many will say you can skip. One day, First Aid.

May 24, 2021. #7. Good for you OP for looking to donate. I always LOL at the people trying to sell their 2017 USMLE First Aid for $20 to an incoming M1s. Let this be a lesson to all incoming medical students to not buy textbooks from upperclassmen. If AMSA is behind Global Medical Libraries send it there.

My medical school library has subscriptions to online versions of most of the important textbooks for medical school. The only "text" I purchased was Robbins just because I thought I wanted it, and I could have used the online version just as easily for how I used it.
