  2. Capabilities of The Rem 40X 22lr, What Are They.. - Sniper's Hide

25, 50 and 100 yards are pretty standard distances for a 22lr, I was wondering if the 40XHB had been able to reach out further, like say hitting a steel plate at 150, 200 or even 250 yards. I'm sure at these distances, that the rifle would run out mildots and it would be like lobbing lead at the targets mortar style.

I contacted the Remington company, and they said this of the 0322 serial number: "Your Model 40X was produced in 1955. In 1955 Remington announced 'an ultra precision .22 Long Rifle target rifle' the Model 40X Rangemaster. It ...

The .22LR Remington 40X was first released in 1955 as a replacement for the model 37 target rifle. The 40X was a pet project of Remington's Mike Walker, who wanted Remington to have a rifle that could beat "all comers", including Winchester's target rifles. The rimfire 40X "Rangemaster" was initially offered in both standard barrel (S1) and ...

    544. N.C. Dec 19, 2021. #3. For your purposes (rimfire 700 platform) you will mainly find the 40X and 40XB. They both differ in the 700 short action in the trigger (safety) and the bottom metal. Obviously the bolts themselves are not interchangeable as the 40X series is mid locking rimfire vs the centerfire’s front lugs.

  7. Why no Remington 700 in .22LR? (not 40-X) - Sniper's Hide

Mar 7, 2020. #29. Remington did have a model 700 in .22LR . It is called a Remington 40x Sporter. It had a 5 shot magazine. I purchased one in about 1973 for about $525. Now they are about $3500. Remington only made about 535 of the rifles. Unfortunately I sold mine NIB in about 1988 when I needed money for the family.

Right now I'm happy that my Rem 40X shoots well enough to justify its cost! I wanted a 22LR that was similar to my Rem 700s. Here's a pic of my new 40X in a refinished vintage target stock. The barrel is the original factory length, 24 inches. Scope is an older Hensoldt 1.5-6x with fine crosshairs: T.

Took my Remington 40X with serial number in the 900's out for some shooting the other day. The date code on this rifle puts manufacture in August of 1955. The trigger has the tiniest bit of creep in it, but hits a second little wall that allows for fairly easy shooting. Pull weight is a little on the heavy side for a target rifle at about 3lbs.

The 1964 price for a 40X rimfire with sights was $170. The 513T with sights was $89. The Ruger 10/22 was $55 in 1964. A Ford Mustang in 1964 was $2,500. A new home was $10,000. If a new 40X is $3000 then a used one (with a wood stock) should be a deal at $750, regardless of what they cost 40 years ago.
