OK, thanks to the boards here I'm aware of the www.disneygiftcard.com site to consolidate Disney gift cards, and have been happily using it for 2 years to have a stack of $1,000 gift cards instead of a mountain of $25/50/100 gift cards. Question: It appears to me that the only option is to transfer the entire balance of a card to another card.
