This always resulted in above average quality fish. For the second tournament, this was the difference between 3 pound and 4+ pound smallies. After fishing these tournaments, finding spawning areas and then fishing in just a little deeper water, confirmed to me the premise the bigger fish are bedding deeper.

Tubes, primarily four-inch Mizmo Big Boy tubes, are the finest crawfish-imitating lure for trophy river smallmouth bass. Mizmo tubes are laced with an abundance of salt, and a bait fish attractant is baked into the rubber during molding. Tube bodies are hollow, allowing for a much more natural feel to the fish.

If you get no takers, repeat the process but count it down by 2 seconds less. This time use the same steady retrieve but fish it a little faster than before. Continue this process, reducing the count by two but slightly speeding up the retrieve each time until you connect with the fish.

  7. Northern Fall Smallmouth – Ultimate Bass

    ultimatebass.com/.../fall-fishing-techniques/northern-fall-smallmouth

Northern smallmouth fishing during the fall holds another similarity with southern reservoirs. A set of conditions has to come together to make the baitfish (and the smallies following) start to get active. The conditions I’m looking for are water temps cooling to the low 60’s as a daytime high, and shortened daylight hours.

Logged. April 19, 2015, 09:50:38 PM. Caught eight smallmouth this weekend on Antietam Creek, all fish in the 10-12" range except for one that was 14". They weren't huge but I love the fight smallmouth put up! Tube baits working the bottom or a rooster tail slowly reeling it in, each yielded four fish. But I had more action with the tube baits ...

For about $49.99 you can have 5 ounces of ultra light power and silky smoothness. Aluminum spool, 5bb's, front drag, and quick 5 to 1 ratio are standard. The only thing this one lacks is instant anti-reverse which wouldn't make sense here with smaller lines. The other reel is the Pinnacle Deadbolt DNF25 and DLF25.

Smallmouth? In the 80's, I lived near a fellow who caught smallmouth bass in a creek that flows into the Chattahoochee River. Here's what you will find hard to believe. It was below Lake West Point. I don't think he would appreciate me giving anymore info than that. They were true smallmouth with some going in the four to five pound range.

  11. Anybody know why some smallmouth have red eyes? - Bass Fishing...

Maybe its diet related. Flamingos are colored because of the beta carotene in the shrimp they eat, crayfish and shrimp are both crustaceans so maybe crayfish are high in b-carotene too. And the smallies with red eyes consume high crayfish diets. Maybe it relates to the level the water is stained and the level of light intensity on their eyes.
