The Surrey Langley SkyTrain Project is a 16-kilometre (9.9 mi) elevated extension of the Expo Line from King George SkyTrain Station in Surrey to 203 Street in Langley City, routed mostly along Fraser Highway. An extension of the Millennium Line west from VCC–Clark station under the Broadway corridor to a station at Arbutus Street began construction in 2020; completion is expected in 2027. [ 26 ] [ 27 ] The Expo Line's extension from King George station to Langley has an anticipated opening date of 2028.

The SkyTrain is TransLink's fully-automated medium-capacity metro system. The system opened in 1985 for Expo 86 . This original portion, now known as the Expo Line , had been joined by the Millennium and Canada lines, making it Canada's longest rapid transit system by track length, at 79.6 kilometres (49.5 mi).

On February 1, 2008, the provincial government and TransLink unveiled a revised business case for the Evergreen Extension, preferring the Advanced Light Rapid Transit (ALRT) used by SkyTrain over the light rail technology that had been proposed.
