M-186 is a short highway providing a direct route from M-113 to US 131 at Fife Lake. Previously, an additional highway, M-137, ran through Grand Traverse County, from US 31 in Green Lake Township south to Interlochen, passing by Interlochen Center for the Arts and Interlochen State Park.
