The Chinese mitten crab originates from Hong Kong to the border of Korea. [9] It can be found inland but prefers coastal areas. In the Yangtze, the largest river in its native range, Chinese mitten crabs have been recorded up to 1,400 km (760 nmi) upstream. [10] It is known to settle in rice fields by the sea and rivers inland.
It is the most famous area of origin for the Chinese mitten crab, which is considered a delicacy. Yangcheng lake is located between Lake Tai and the Yangtze River. It crosses the boundary of the cities Suzhou , Changshu and Kunshan and has a surface area of about 20 km 2 (7.7 sq mi).
