The following year in 2018, Thompson's football team advanced to the AHSAA 7A Finals for the first time in over three decades. [14] In 2019, the Warriors went 12–1 and advanced to the AHSAA 7A Finals, where they beat the Central-Phenix High School Red Devils 40–14, giving Thompson their first football state championship since 1983.
